"Just for today, I will let go of anger.

Just for today, I will let go of worry.

Today, I will count my many blessings.

Today, I will do my work honestly.

Today, I will be kind to every living creature."

Dr Mikao Usui

What is it?
Reiki is an energy technique which can be used to treat the whole person, body, spirit, emotions, and mind. Universal life force energy or Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) transferred via an attuned practitioner flows effortlessly throughout the body, targeting areas of imbalance as well as the cause. It can be delivered with the hands on or off the body or via distant services.

Reiki as a healing form was re-introduced to the modern world in the late 1800's by Dr Mikao Usui, a highly educated and travelled Buddhist who was born in Japan. It is a natural and safe method of healing now used throughout the world.

What is the process?

Following a brief discussion, you get to lie down fully clothed on a comfortable therapy bed. Gentle music and aromatherapy scents fill the softly lit room. You are encouraged to close your eyes and to fully relax, allowing any thoughts to leave your mind.

Your practitioner will conduct the healing session by putting their hands lightly on your head and face, torso and legs. Some healing work may be conducted in the energy field around your body. If you have pain or discomfort in your back, you may be asked to roll onto the front of your body.

You may experience feelings of warmth and tingling, see colours, vivid dream-like visions, or you may just fall asleep.

Following the session you are advised to stay well hydrated, maintaining an adequate intake of fluids to allow any toxins to be excreted from the body. Also it is important to avoid alcohol for 24 hours to allow your body to integrate the healing energies you have received.

What are the benefits?

Reiki has more recently undergone evidence-based research in a number of universities and hospital environments. Several double-blind trials which used traditional scientific research methods involving a treatment group, a control group, and a placebo or sham treatment group proved without a doubt that Reiki provides physical, mental and emotional benefits. These included positive physiological responses such as slowing the heart rate, reducing respiration rate, lowering the blood pressure and controlling pain post-operatively and in those with chronic conditions. Psychological improvements included the significant reduction in anxiety and depression.

Other benefits that appear to be commonly experienced are a sense of calm and peacefulness, whole body relaxation, clearer thinking, and the release of negative emotions. Reiki may also improve immunity by activating the body's own natural healing processes, as well as enhancing coping abilities and maintaining general health and well-being.

Major hospitals in several countries are using Reiki therapy in conjunction with mainstream medicine to alleviate side effects such as pain, nausea, and mental and emotional stress, as well as improving patient recovery times.
